Riding through
this charming southern province will expose you
to a fascinating history, breathtaking scenery,
ancient architecture and diverse cultures. The
old houses and cobbled streets will be accented
by the colorful attire of ethnic tribes. We will
explore the Jade Dragon Mountain and Tiger
Leaping Gorge of the Yangte River. We then
travel south and cross the Mekong to The Burma Road
(Chinese: µáÃ幫·), it was a road linking Burma (also
called Myanmar) with the southwest of China. Its
terminals were Kunming, Yunnan, and Lashio,
Burma. It was built while Burma was a British
colony in order to convey supplies to China
during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Preventing
the flow of supplies on the road helped motivate
the occupation of Burma by the Empire of Japan
in 1942. Use of the road was restored to the
Allies in 1945 after the completion of the Ledo
Road. Some parts of the old road are still
visible today. We traverse among the valleys of
Salween and reach the south most point of the
trip at Ruili, border to Myanmar.
